the chewer is my love. I love the chewer. have you ever seen this thing? I don't know when I first saw the chewer, but I knew right then that I loved it. it's some kind of contraption, a metal can with a handle that when cranked moves a lower jaw (made of an animal’s jaw) up to an upper jaw to “chew,” covered by a burlap sack with embedded bright blue doll eyes. it was made by tateware.cc on TikTok. its macabre allure immediately drew me in. absolutely wonderful. it's so disturbing it wraps back around to being adorable. it's a compelling piece of mechanical artwork, too. I think it's beautiful. the sound of its jaws working soothes me, somehow. there's just something in me that this appeals to. one day, I designed a human version and couldn't stop drawing it. I think about the chewer more often than not and even more about my OC chewer. they're even cuter than the original. I took the time to come up with a personality, a story, likes, dislikes, and more. they have a perfect ratio of values, textures, colors, and a great range to pull from and draw. nonbinary, they/them and it/its pronouns preferred but any are ok hobbies include chewing and knife sharpening prefers to use sign language and barely makes any noise at all other than clacking their jaw they like being seen as cute, and its feelings are hurt easily very particular about being touched, enjoys being held and hugged but sets firm boundaries especially around their jaw (no touching its face) has a very dry sense of humor and does not always get jokes immediately they get visibly annoyed when people talk about them as though they’re not present favorite desserts include tres leches cake, churro bites, cinnamon rolls, shortbread and apple turnovers favorite snacks include salted plantain chips, peanuts, pretzels and corn nuts it works in a workshop carving wood and welding for others, takes breaks often their teeth/jaws get dried out quickly because of constant exposure to air, so it really enjoys hard candies and cough drops and sometimes wears a mask to keep moisture in. takes very good care of their mouth born with a congenital developmental abnormality affecting the soft tissues of the mouth and lower face. their nose and upper face developed normally, but their lips and much of the surrounding facial tissue never properly formed, leaving their mouth permanently exposed. its gums are unusually prominent and sit close to the surface of the face, with very little soft tissue covering the teeth. gums are somewhat tougher and more keratinized than normal because they’re chronically exposed to air and friction. their lower jaw is slightly shorter and narrower than average but unusually sturdy, with a broad, blunt front and a pronounced mandibular structure beneath the mouth. its jaw is highly mobile and opens and closes with a somewhat exaggerated motion. they have a mostly normal set of teeth, though their arrangement is unusual. the upper teeth are normally sized and pointed, while the lower teeth are larger in size, broad and blunt, resembling the shape of the back molars despite being positioned at the front of the mouth. this arrangement is not inherently dysfunctional and it can still chew. without functional lips, they can’t form a normal seal around their mouth, so saliva escapes more easily. learned to swallow frequently and tilt its head or use a cloth when necessary (carries a handkerchief) can’t smile in the conventional human sense because they don’t have the lip musculature to pull the corners of the mouth upward…smiles with eyes or opens mouth instead has never considered their face particularly unusual. they can eat, drink, clack its teeth together, and otherwise use their mouth normally, although they cannot properly close their lips. it has no particular desire to hide them. the burlap covering its head is therefore more of an accessory than a necessity and they are quite fond of how they look for context it is based on some kind of contraption, a metal can with a handle that when cranked moves a lower jaw (made of an animal’s jaw) up to an upper jaw to “chew,” covered by a burlap sack with embedded bright blue doll eyes. you can watch the video here chewer's blinkies:
